We started our randomized trial in May, 2007 and completed in November, 2009. Can we register our trial now? If yes, how much will be charge?

A trial can be registered at any time in IRCT at no charge. However the registration date will be the date of approval for the trail. Therefore for trials that have already finished or are underway, it will be a retrospective registration.

Yes you can and this is exactly the purpose of "secondary ID" fields.

What do you mean by "Primary and Secondry outcomes, outcome time point, and method of measurement" in registering a clinical trial.

Here is an example to clarify the answer. In a clinical trial that examines the effect of a new antidepressant drug in treatment of depression, the researcher decide to measure depression using Beck questionnaire every month from the start of the treatment to find out if the scores will get better over a 6 months period. The researcher might be interested in assessing patient's quality of life as well using SF12 questionnaire to find out about the impact of the treatment on patient's quality of life. In this example Depression and quality of life are primary and secondary outcome measures respectively, Beck and SF12 questionnaires are methods of measurements and "every month" is the outcome time point for primary outcome measure.

We have substantial numbers of clinical trials running in Iran each year. IRCT is a WHO primary register and is not involved in advertising job vacancies for clinical trials. I am afraid you have to look for vacancy information elsewhere.

On behalf of Dr fakhrzade I have registered trial number "1109" (Effect of w-3 capsule on .......) almost 10 months ago. Our trial have not registered in your site despite all necessary informatio was available. I think that it could be due to incomplete the date of sampling and end of sampling. I have completed registration and expect your response.

Dear Mrs Mirarefin, When you have access to your incomplete trial, it means that you have either not submitted it or have missed the notification which instruct you to get back to your record and make necessary changes. When your record is examined for compatibility with IRCT format, there are occasions where amendments are needed. In these cases, registrant's access to the record will be restored and an e-mail notification will go to his/her e-mail address. You might be one of those people who have missed this e-mail. We encourage IRCT registrants to check their SPAM e-mail regularly while registering a trial.

Please go to www.irct.ir and enter your username and password to get access to your personal page and an incomplete trial record ready for you to complete. You can access your personal profile once you clicked on the incomplete trial record. You will get your trial registration number when you entered you trial information and it is approved by our technical staff in IRCT.

The usual pathway for a clinical trial in Iran starts from an academic institution. When protocol is ready, it should be submitted to institutional review boards/ethic committees to get their approval. Next step is to secure funding from funding bodies. Finally the trial should be registered in IRCT (Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials) before it gets underway.

The instructions for registering in IRCT state that "All clinical trials that are conducted in Iran should have registration with IRCT." Is this instruction based on an Iranian law or regulation, or is it based on other factors, such as acceptance by ICMJE journal editors, WHO guidelines, etc.? Dear John, This is based on an Iranian regulation set by Ministry of Health and Medical Education. As you may know IRCT is a bilingual registry and provides the opportunity to register a trial record both in English and Persian Languages. As one of the aims of the registration of trials worldwide is transparency and providing information for public, it is sensible to give the subjects of a trial the means to learn more about the study that they are participating in. Dear Mr Khamesipour, If you haven't recieved an e-mail from IRCT 48 hours after registration, the most likely scenario is that e-mail has been redirected to your SPAM folder by your e-mail management server. Please check your SPAM or JUNK folder. Other less likely possibilities are spelling mistakes in your e-mail address (username) which results in sending e-mail to an invalid address. if a researcher thinks that his /her research may have a result that is a patent how can you support him or her. and is his /her research is secret until submit the patent?

Dear Mr Pourahmad, All information you submit to IRCT as part of a trial record will become public once it was approved. We are a WHO primary register and at the moment there is no provison for any kind of restriction of access to registered trial records in WHO primary registers.
