Protocol summary

Summary
Sleep disturbance is depends on a couple of factors such as noise, light and dark cycle disorder in cardiac care unit(CCU) that can lead to acute coronary syndrome and worsen the patients' condition. One of these important factors is environmental. Sleep can be improved by reducing physical milieu. Although many studies have been working on sleep disorder there is little focus on removing bothering environmental features. This study was designed to compare the effects of simple and low cost devices such as eye mask and earplugs with each other on reducing the environmental factors and improving sleep in CCU patients. This study is a randomized clinical trial conducted in Imam Khomeini Hospital of Jiroft in 2011. Patients were randomly divided into three groups: eye mask, earplugs and both eye mask and earplugs users. Crossover method was used; so that half of the patients in each group were assumed control for themselves the first night and the other half on the second night. The day after VSH-scale was filled at 9 am by participants.
